M1

The Korg M1 is a digital music workstation released in 1988, combining a 16-voice sample-based synthesizer with a built-in sequencer, drum sounds and onboard digital effects in a single 61-key instrument. Its voices are built from short PCM samples held in ROM, which are then shaped by a digital filter and envelopes rather than generated by analogue oscillators. Its factory piano and organ programs are closely associated with late-1980s and 1990s pop, and the organ bass sound in particular with house and dance production.
