TB-303

The Roland TB-303 Bass Line is a monophonic analogue bass synthesiser with a built-in step sequencer, produced by Roland in the early 1980s. It uses a single oscillator switchable between sawtooth and square waveforms, routed through a resonant low-pass filter, and its sequencer allows slide and accent to be programmed on individual steps. It was originally sold as a bass accompaniment device for musicians practising without a bass player, but became a defining instrument in acid house and related electronic dance genres, where its resonant filter sweeps are the characteristic sound.
