Prophet-5 (rev 2/3)

SYNTHESIZER · USED MARKET ONLY

The Prophet-5 is a five-voice analogue polyphonic synthesizer made by Sequential Circuits, using subtractive synthesis with two oscillators and a resonant low-pass filter per voice. It was among the first polyphonic synthesizers able to store complete patches in memory, and was built from the late 1970s into the 1980s across several hardware revisions: Revision 2 uses SSM voice chips, while Revision 3 moved to Curtis (CEM) chips. It is typically used for analogue pads, brass and string-style sounds and lead tones, and is associated with pop, rock and film scoring of that era.
